carrot cake to celebrate......

..........no sign of cancer in my dad's lymph nodes! hooray and PRAISE THE LORD!

my dad LOVES carrot cake, so i decided to make him one. here's the recipe i used. it was (is) delish, and i've never been a carrot cake fan before. we put almonds in the frosting rather than pecans. much better choice, in my humble opinion.

i know this post seems kind of random, but over the past few weeks, things seem to have happened fast. first my dad has a spot on his lung. then we find out later that two years ago my dad had a spot on his lung. and since then it has grown. he's taken a few tests and one doctor (a thoracic surgeon) seems to think it may be cancer. the first step was to see if the cancer (if that is what it is) spread. he had surgery monday morning to test his lymph nodes (the first place cancer would spread to). today we received the news that there is no cancer in his lymph nodes (praise the Lord). the next step now is for the said doctor to remove a part of my dad's lung. this happens on monday morning. once the part of his lung that has the spot on it is out, then they'll know for sure if it is cancer or not. i'll keep you updated.

gerber generation celebration house party

i am SO excited to be able to host a house party! i was selected to host the gerber generation celebration house party and it's this saturday night! may 15! it came quick and i need to get planning! it's supposed to be the ultimate baby shower...any ideas?? i'm thinking about doing cupcakes with blue and pink frosting. i made cinnamon rolls the other day and froze them...i may serve some of them warmed up too. they were yummy. we're going to play at least one game, maybe more. but for sure we'll play bingo. i love bingo. and on the house party website, they have a party favor section and there's a bingo game just for the gerber party. yay! another thing we'll be doing at the party is learning about the start healthy, stay healthy program that gerber has. they make food and drinks for infants up to 48 months. they have different stages of food for each group. we'll talk about that and even have some samples! (for the kids, not the adults.) :)

katie and i decided that we should do something special to celebrate our boys' birthdays every year. this year we chose calm! it was fun. neither katie nor i had been there before so it was fun to explore. katie blogged about it here, but i'll add a few pictures to my blog too. thanks katie and henry for a great day!

the sign was perfect! even though it was for calm's birthday, we took a picture because we were having a birthday celebration (well, two, to be exact.) :)

caleb's first birthday party!

we celebrated caleb's first birthday on may 2. we were joined by lots of family and friends.

caleb was dedicated to the Lord at his party. pastor joey and grandpa roger tag-teamed the event. it was very special and primo and i look forward to teaching and raising caleb in the Lord.

next up: cake! it took caleb a little while to realize what he needed to do with the cake. eventually he got the idea and ate away. my mom made cupcakes and my sister annie decorated them! they looked like they came from a bakery, they did such a good job. i put the animal picks in them. :) we had rosie's make the farm cake and they gave us a free cake just for caleb!
